Five things to do before the installer arrives

The day of the install isn't the day to start preparing. A small amount of work in the week beforehand can save your installer hours — which usually means saving you money — and gives a measurably better finish.

  1. Empty the room completely. Yes, completely. Every shelf, every tool, every car. We grind the entire slab, and we can't grind under things.
  2. Patch obvious oil and chemical stains in advance. Soak a poultice (cat litter and brake cleaner works) over heavy oil patches for 48 hours and sweep up. We'll deal with what's left, but we charge less when we don't have to.
  3. Identify any moisture issues. If your garage floor has ever shown a damp patch after rain, mention it when you book. We test for slab moisture before priming — but knowing the history saves a callback later.
  4. Decide on a flake colour ahead of time. Flake colour is the most common thing people change their mind about during install. We bring sample boards but it's much easier in your space, in your light, ahead of the install day.
  5. Plan where the cars and the dog will live for a week. The floor is walkable next-day, but vehicles need to stay off for 5–7 days. Cats and dogs need to stay off for the same.

None of this is mandatory. We've installed plenty of garages that looked like a tornado hit them. But every hour of prep on your end saves about thirty minutes on ours, and it always shows in the final result.
